Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions
Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions, a division of Curtiss-Wright, is an industry-leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of rugged, highly-engineered components and systems that ensure ground vehicles have the technical edge in the harshest environments.
From innovative, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modules to highly-engineered subsystems and fully integrated systems, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions provides the technology insights, engineering innovation, application experience, and regulatory knowledge trusted by defense departments and systems integrators worldwide.
Our complete portfolio of components and systems for ground vehicles is based on open standards, rigorous design methodologies, and disciplined development processes that ensure reliability, reduce program risk, and get vehicles to market faster. These products are specifically designed to alleviate the size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) challenges on ground vehicles. They are built on more than 80 years of industry innovation and backed by extended support programs that ensure reliability for decades.
Our modular, open standards approach eliminates proprietary interfaces and reduces system complexity and clutter. It enables adaptation for a variety of operating requirements, simplifies system upgrades and modifications, and reduces the cost of future technology migration efforts. Flexibility, scalability, and interoperability are assured through support for open systems architectures, such as the U.S. Army’s Vehicle Integration for C4ISR/Electronic Warfare (EW) Interoperability (VICTORY) initiative, the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA), and the C4ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS).
Curtiss-Wright’s rugged networking modules and systems provide reliable in-vehicle connectivity and secure connections to wide-area networks for situational awareness and network-centric operations. From simple, plug-and-play unmanaged Layer 2 switches to high-bandwidth managed Layer 3 Gigabit/10 Gigabit solutions, and even ruggedized Cisco IOS technology-based options, Curtiss-Wright offers a complete selection of IP networking solutions.
Our COTS-based mission management systems are engineered to meet unique specifications, program cost, and schedule requirements. These systems are built on proven OpenVPX™ building blocks that provide higher levels of performance and reduced power consumption, and minimize the number of Line Replaceable Units deployed in space-constrained ground vehicles.
Curtiss-Wright offers high performance embedded computing (HPEC) solutions that can detect, identify, and respond to signals quickly. Our complete product portfolio includes Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) processing and analog-to-digital, digital-to-analog converter (ADC/DAC) modules, as well as digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) for radar spoofing and other Electronic Countermeasures (ECM). In both 3U and 6U OpenVPX form factors, we deliver the processing power to operate on high-bandwidth data streams with very low latency.
Our image processing modules enable a variety of applications for ground vehicles, including target tracking using object recognition from vehicle-mounted high definition cameras. From FPGA options for image acquisition and processing to high-performance Intel®-based processor cards and general-purpose graphics processing cards, our image processing modules leverage innovative power and cooling technologies to optimize processing in a single card slot.
We also offer rugged video management products that help operators get the most out of the multiple cameras and sensors on a vehicle, while reducing integration headaches between legacy and new video equipment. Designed for modern, multi-sensor systems, our video management offerings reduce cabling, redundant equipment, and operator overhead, which in turn reduces time to market, risk, and program cost.
Our mission displays provide operators with full control of on-board video sources and video recorders in an easy-to-use package. Designed to minimize reflection by almost 85 percent in even the brightest conditions, these displays enable anytime readability while providing reliability in the harshest conditions. They are completely aligned with the GVA standard, include programmable bezel button configurations, and support video over Ethernet capability, if required. In addition, they are based off industry leading PCAP smartphone touchscreen technology that works during both gloved and wet operation.
Curtiss-Wright’s rugged, secure data storage systems offer a proven solution for encrypting, retrieving, archiving, and processing mission data, digital video, and intelligence in real time to support ground force operations. These compact, transportable network attached storage systems are qualified for applications that require sharing of critical data in harsh ground mobile environments.
Our fire control systems enable accurate processing of data from all on-board systems to calculate munition trajectory and direction. Engineered for reliable, low-latency, and highly deterministic operation, these systems are built on Power Architecture® CPUs and integrated with all the I/O required for a specific vehicle’s sensor suite and vehicle information bus.
Curtiss-Wright also offers customizable turret aiming and stabilization systems engineered to provide reliable, cost-effective turret stabilization while in motion. Our system building blocks include rotary gear drives, linear drives, gyroscopes, motor controllers, and hand controllers. These modules are available in three standard configurations, as well as custom designs to meet the needs of any ground vehicle.
All our offerings are built rugged to withstand the extremes of temperature, shock, vibration, and environmental hazards based on ruggedization processes built on decades of research and development. They are backed by complete program life cycle services, which include program management, full qualification testing, configuration management, risk management, and long-term supply/repair.
